Vilundabadet – acoustics adapted for water and movement

When the Municipality of Upplands Väsby initiated the development of the new Vilundabadet, the objective was clear: to create an attractive swimming facility with a strong environmental focus. A project that was both inspiring and challenging – not least from an acoustic perspective.

Swimming pool environments place high demands on sound control. Large volumes, hard surfaces, and constant movement naturally result in long reverberation times. Add to this a setting with high humidity and continuous exposure to water, and the requirements for materials become even more demanding.

Here, sound absorbers based on EcoSUND® proved to be a natural solution. The core material is fully recyclable and made from 100% PET, at least half of which is recycled. It is free from binders and has a structure that makes the fibers moisture-resistant – meaning they are unaffected by humidity and do not risk mold growth. Properties that are essential in a swimming pool environment.

For the walls, the VERTIKAL lamella curtain was selected, combining effective sound absorption with a flexible and architectural expression. In the ceiling, a solution was required that could both absorb and diffuse sound waves. The result was a wave-shaped suspended ceiling made of wooden slats, with EcoSUND® sound absorbers installed behind. A solution that contributes to a more pleasant acoustic environment while reinforcing the space’s visual identity.

Vilundabadet is a clear example of how the right material choices and well-considered acoustic solutions can create sustainable, functional, and comfortable environments – even in the most demanding contexts.
